LARP

ZOO Playground (Playground 1)

Venue 186, High School Yards, EH1 1LZ

2nd – 10th August 2019 @ 18:50 – every day.

From BBC Hotlist and Channel 4 Playwright Award winner Berri George (SHADOW KINGDOMS, Theatre503 & TITS, BBC3), comes her Edinburgh Fringe debut, LARP, a warm-hearted journey into the fantastical, which charts a woman’s quest for friendship in the one place where she’ll finally feel accepted.

Twenty-two characters come alive in this whip-smart, high velocity, one woman play, suitably infused with a Fleetwood Mac soundtrack. The world of LARPing (Live Action Role Play) has never been theatricalised, and remains a largely mysterious but a hugely popular, sub-culture. What’s particularly wonderful about LARPing is its ability to utilise the power of the imagination in its purest form alongside celebrating individualism and inclusivity.

"T-minus 7 days till my first LARP. And… I’ve created my character. I’ve decided to be a high priestess of the mountain dwelling Courzonee people. That’s Cour-zo-nee not Calzone, the folded pizza."

Lucy Salmon works for Blue Sky Printers. An introverted mythology lover who’s also a fan of pink post-it notes, wolves, Fleetwood Mac…Oh and 125gsm A5 paper in Mohawk Opaque Smooth. Two weeks off turning 32, still living at home and never had a real group of friends; life’s not exactly filling her with excitement and hope.

So, when a large print job comes in for Imperium’s next live action role-playing (LARP) fest, an idea is formulated. Perhaps it’s time to grab life by the proverbial horns? And perhaps it might be easier “grabbing” it as someone else…

With 10 days to prepare for her first LARP event, this kaleidoscopic adventure fundamentally unleashes Lucy’s inner roar. This is a bittersweet comedy about love, mystery, Greek Gods and Goddesses, explores, in all its flaws and contradictions, the existence of a woman who always finds herself on life’s fringes. Sometimes the quietest people have the loudest and most exhilarating tales to tell. Be prepared to be swept away into Lucy’s charm filled world.
